WCFL World Tag Team Champions Ole and Gene Anderson were forced to relinquish their claim on the WCFL world title after a shoulder injury suffered by Gene will keep him out of action until sometime in December. WCFL president Ramblin' Wreck out of fairness to the promotions of the WCFL had no choice but to declare the titles vacant. A 21 team tournament for the belts is in the works as of this writing. No starting date has been set as of yet.
In a wild brawl that raged all through the Hemis Fair Arena, Scott Casey turned away the challenge of Abdullah The Butcher who was looking to collect the 5,000.00 bounty placed on Casey's head by the Sheepherders. Casey's next challenge comes in the form of former NWA world champion Harley Race. The two are set to meet October 21st at the Fair Park Coliseum in Lubbock, TX.
Sunday night, October 7th at the Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, Texas. Adrian Adonis defeated Manny Fernandez for the Southwest heavyweight title in a hard fought contest that saw both men tested to their limits. Adonis didn't have long to celebrate his victory though as he faced "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair the very next night for his first title defense in Vancouver. The two fought to a thirty minute draw in a thrilling display of wrestling ability. Adonis has promised Flair a return match for his title. The date for that match has not yet decided but when it happens it will sure be a blockbuster.
This Sunday night Abdullah the Butcher returns to Texas to try and collect the bounty placed on Scott Casey by Sheepherder "Warlord" Jonathon Boyd. The madman from the Sudan is the first of many signed in an attempt to collect the bounty. With a monster like Abdullah coming after him, will there be anything left of Casey for the others?
The wrestling world still has no idea who interfered under the mask 2 weeks ago in a match involving Chicky Starr & Siegfried Stanke. The SW Spoiler hasn't been seen since that night but Manager Don Carson promises that we haven't seen the last of him. Many are guessing to the identity of the SW Spoiler but until he is unmasked we will never know. The Southwest board has declined to comment on the situation until a later date.
WCFL World Champion Dusty Rhodes successfully defended the WCFL title here in SWCW on September 30 in San Antonio, turning back the challenge of Adrian Adonis who earned the shot earlier in the month by winning the Texas Brawl. It was a hard fought contest that saw Adonis fall short of pinning the champion several times. The WCFL World title returns to SWCW in November.
